Q: Where are you going?
A: My tentative itinerary is Israel –> Portugal –> Spain –> Indonesia –> Thailand –> Laos –> Cambodia –> Vietnam –> Australia. Definitely subject to change.
Q: How long are you traveling for?
A: I plan on traveling through the rest of 2016, but nothing is set in stone. If I hate living out of a backpack and can’t handle life without a hair straightener, I could come back after two months. If I love the nomad life and find a job along the way…well my passport is valid through 2021…(sorry mom!).
Q: Are you going with anyone?
A: Nope! I’m meeting up with friends at a few points along the way, but will spend most of the trip travelling by myself. My Type A personality can’t wait!
Q: Have you backpacked or traveled alone before?
A: Not really, but I think it will be a good experience for me. My mom suggested I title this blog “Entitled Jewish Princess goes minimalist in SE Asia: Why a cushy rich-kids overnight camp did not prepare me for this,” so she obviously has a lot of faith in me.
Q: Why are you going? Is this an Eat. Pray. Love. type of thing?
A: No. I just keep spending money on plane tickets between the US and Asia, I thought I should just knock everywhere I want to go out in one trip. I’ve been working since I graduated college, and I’m looking forward to taking a break, living spontaneously, and eating some damn good Asian food.
Q: What are you doing when you get back?
A: No idea. Temporarily moving back in with my parents and figuring out next steps?
Q: How can I contact you?
A: I’m keeping my American phone number, so you can text me and I’ll answer when I have wifi. I’ll also have a local number in each country in case of emergency. The best way to talk to me is via email (alexamarion31@gmail.com).
Q: Are you moving back to DC after your trip?
A: No.
Q: What about Boston?
A: Probably not.
Q: Wait, you can’t swim?
A: I’ve mastered doggie paddling and treading water, so I probably won’t drown. I can’t do any actual swimming strokes.
